Description
What Bac Water is
Bac Water is short for bacteriostatic water: sterile water containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol as a preservative. In the laboratory it is used as a diluent for reconstituting lyophilised (freeze-dried) research compounds.
Why the preservative matters
Plain sterile water carries no preservative, so once the seal is broken the contents can support microbial growth and the vial is effectively single-use. The benzyl alcohol here is bacteriostatic — it inhibits bacterial growth rather than killing existing organisms — which is what allows a sealed vial to be drawn on more than once across a working period.
3 ml and 10 ml
The 3 ml vial suits a single compound or a short working period. The 10 ml is the usual choice where several vials are being reconstituted, or where the same diluent will be drawn on repeatedly. Both are supplied sealed.
Storage and handling
Store sealed vials at room temperature, away from direct light, and record the date a vial is first punctured. Benzyl alcohol is not compatible with every material — check the compatibility of your compound before use, and choose a preservative-free diluent where your protocol requires one.
Research use only
Supplied strictly for laboratory and in-vitro research. Not for human or veterinary use. No claims are made regarding any biological property or safety in any living subject.

Certificate of Analysis & documentation
Every batch is independently third-party tested. View or download the Certificate of Analysis, and download the Safety Data Sheet for safe laboratory handling.
How to read your Certificate of Analysis
Every vial carries a lot number, and that lot number is the link between the material in your hand and an independent laboratory report for that exact batch — not a sample document, and not a previous production run.
- 1Find the lot number
It is printed on the label of the vial in your hand. The current lot for this product is EBL-BW-001.
- 2Open the certificate
Scan the QR code on the rear of the label, or open the Bac Water entry in the COA library. Analysis for this batch is in progress and the certificate will appear there as soon as it completes.
- 3Check the lot matches
The lot on the certificate must match the lot on your vial character for character. A certificate for a different batch tells you nothing about the vial you are holding. If they do not match, tell us.
- 4Read the result
Identity, purity, the analytical methods used and the date of analysis are all stated on the report, along with the name of the laboratory that performed it.
What the analysis actually measures
High-performance liquid chromatography separates a sample into its individual components and measures the proportion accounted for by the target peptide. A figure of 99.5% means 99.5% of the peptide content is the stated compound; the remainder is process-related impurities such as truncated or deletion sequences.
Compares how long the material takes to travel through the column against a reference standard for the same compound. This is what establishes identity. Purity without identity is meaningless — a sample can be 99.9% pure and still be the wrong compound.
The date the batch was tested. It is not the manufacturing date and not the dispatch date. A certificate dated long before the batch shipped is worth questioning.
Our reports are produced by a third-party laboratory with no commercial interest in the result. An in-house certificate is a supplier grading its own homework.
A certificate of analysis characterises the material as supplied. It does not speak to suitability for any particular application, and it says nothing about behaviour in any biological system.
Handling, storage and reconstitution
Inspect the vial and the seal before anything else, and check the lot on the label against the certificate. Report any damage, defect or shortage promptly.
Clear, colourless solution. Material that looks visibly different from this should be queried before use.
Store at 15-25C, protected from light. After first puncture, refrigerate and discard within 28 days.
Direct the solvent stream against the wall of the vial rather than onto the lyophilised cake, and let it run down. Swirl gently until dissolved — do not shake or vortex, as mechanical agitation can shear peptide chains and foam the solution.
Keep refrigerated and protected from light. Minimise repeated freeze-thaw cycles; aliquot instead if the solution will be drawn on more than once. Peptides in solution are markedly less stable than the lyophilised powder.
Handle in a suitably equipped laboratory with appropriate personal protective equipment. Full guidance on handling, spillage and disposal is in the safety data sheet.
General laboratory guidance for lyophilised research peptides. It is not a protocol, and it does not imply suitability for any application.

Delivery, returns and damaged orders
Please inspect your order as soon as it arrives and tell us promptly about any damage, defect or shortage. Because these are sealed research materials, we cannot generally accept a return or refund once the seal on a vial has been broken. If an item arrives faulty, damaged in transit, or not as described, we will replace it or refund it. Email info@elitebiolabs.co.uk before sending anything back. This does not affect your statutory rights.
