What “research use only” actually means

A plain explanation of the label that appears on every vial we sell, what it permits, and what it rules out.

Every product on this site carries the same four words: research use only. It is not marketing language and it is not a disclaimer bolted on for safety. It is a description of what the material is and the only basis on which we will supply it.

What it means in practice

Research use only (RUO) material is intended for laboratory and in-vitro work — bench experiments, assay development, analytical method work, reference standards and similar scientific use. It is produced, tested and documented to a standard appropriate for that purpose.

It is not a medicine. It has not been through the development, trials, licensing or manufacturing controls that a medicine requires. It carries no marketing authorisation from the MHRA or any equivalent regulator, and no claim of safety or efficacy in any living subject is made or implied anywhere on this site.

What it rules out

RUO material must not be administered to humans or to animals. That is not a grey area and it is not a formality. We will not supply material to anyone who indicates an intention to use it that way, and we will not answer questions about doing so.

We also will not provide protocols, quantities, schedules or any other guidance framed around use in a living subject, regardless of how the question is asked.

Why we are strict about it

The honest reason is that the distinction is what makes legitimate supply possible. Research chemistry depends on a clear line between material produced for the bench and material produced for people. Suppliers who blur it damage the whole category, and eventually lose the ability to supply anyone.

Holding the line also means the documentation we give you is worth something. A certificate of analysis is meaningful precisely because it describes what the material is, rather than making claims about what it does.

If you are not a researcher

If you have arrived here looking for something to take, this is not the right supplier, and we would rather say so plainly than take the order. Speak to a pharmacist or a doctor.

Research use only. Everything in this library is written for a laboratory and research-supply context. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing here describes administration to humans or animals. Elite Bio Labs supplies materials for in-vitro and laboratory research only.
