What has been published on TB-500
An important distinction first, because it is routinely blurred: TB-500 is not thymosin beta-4. Thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4) is a 43-amino-acid naturally occurring actin-sequestering protein. TB-500 is a shorter synthetic fragment corresponding to part of its active region. Literature on Tβ4 does not automatically transfer to TB-500, and papers should be read for which molecule was actually used.
Lines of investigation in the literature
- Actin regulation and cell migration. Tβ4 is one of the principal actin-sequestering proteins in mammalian cells, and much of the foundational work is cell-biological rather than therapeutic.
- Corneal and dermal wound models. A substantial body of work examines epithelial repair, and Tβ4 has reached human clinical trials in ophthalmic indications.
- Cardiac models. Work in rodent models of myocardial injury examining cell survival and vessel formation.
- Angiogenesis and inflammatory signalling. Recurrent across several model systems.
What the literature does not establish
The clinical trial work concerns the full Tβ4 peptide in specific indications, not the synthetic fragment supplied for research use, and not for general tissue repair. Treat claims that transfer Tβ4 clinical data onto TB-500 as unsupported.
